Winter Holiday Treats For Picture Book Readers
A WHISPER IN THE SNOW
By Kate Westerlund. Illustrated by Feridun Oral.
Three rabbits and two mice (twins) hear a whisper under the snow. They dig and find a wet, sad stuffed bear, so they pack him in a little wagon and cart him to a friend’s house. There they fix him up, get him dressed and enlist some bird friends to find the child who has lost him. Even the truly jaded may melt a bit over this charming, exquisitely illustrated Beatrix Potter-esque Christmas tale, which wears its holiday message and its life lessons (teamwork, compassion, critical thinking) as lightly as the season’s first dusting of snow.

Mr. Hollyberry's Christmas Gift
Mr. Hollyberry will be arriving in the United States on October 1st. Actually, his British cousin Mr Snow was available for a short while but now Mr. H. is all set to share his Christmas story. Every snowfall brings its own kind of magic, but this year when Nora and her sister Lizzie make a little snowcat for their snowman, Mr. Hollyberry, there’s a little extra magic in the air. Their new neighbor Emily wishes more than anything that she could have a real cat just like it for Christmas. If only she knew what Mr. Hollyberry and his animal friends know—that there’s something special about the snow that falls on Christmas Eve, something that can make wishes come true. An enchanting tale of Christmas wonder where new friends are made and wishes are granted, this is a perfect book for the holiday season. |
